Treatments to repair decayed or broken teeth
We provide both Amalgam (traditional metal fillings) and white fillings.
An Amalgam filling is a mixture made up of liquid mercury and metal alloy and is commonly used in dentistry to fill cavities caused by tooth decay.
White fillings are made up of a composite material which is designed to blend in with the natural colour of your teeth. They are a non metal alternative to Amalgam fillings and are the perfect option for those who require a more aesthetically pleasing result.
A dental crown is a a type of dental restoration which is mainly used for structural reasons but is sometimes used for aesthetic reasons.
A dental crown is essentially a ‘cap’ which is placed over a decaying or damaged tooth. A crown is sometimes fitted following Root Canal Treatment.
A dental veneer is a layer of material, usually composite or porcelain which is placed over the tooth.
Veneers are sometimes used to protect the tooth’s surface from damage but they are mainly used to improve the aesthetics of a smile. They are particularly beneficial for the treatment of chipped enamel or misaligned teeth and can transform your smile in just 2 appointments.
Benefits of repairing decayed or broken teeth
- It can improve the appearance of your smile particularly if you have suffered from broken or decayed teeth.
- Opting for dental veneers or a dental crown will provide structural strength and protect your teeth from further damage.
- They are a discrete option for tooth restoration.
How do I decide what the best option is for me?
Your dentist will assess your needs and discuss the available options with you. Typically, Veneers are used for aesthetic reasons and to treat minor issues whereas dental crowns are more often used to restore more severely damaged teeth.
Are the treatments long lasting?
Fillings and Crowns are generally a permanent solution, whereas Dental Veneers last anywhere between 5-20 years. The actual lifespan of any treatment depends on how well they are maintained and your oral hygiene routine.
